Forsyth County ranked 13th in state for resident earnings in 2017


Forsyth County ranked 13th among counties in North Carolina by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Forsyth County residents was an inflation-adjusted $27,059 per year. Forsyth County had 145,102 households in 2017, with a population of 368,362.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Wake County. Wake County's median income was $36,316 per year after adjusting for inflation – $9,257 more than Forsyth County. It had 381,971 households in 2017 and a population of 1,023,811.

Watauga County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in North Carolina, with a median income of only $17,129 per year. That was $9,930 less than the median income in Forsyth County at the time. Watauga County had 20,331 households in 2017 and a population of 53,421.
